Intimate PARTNERS/Adult Survivors/Couples in the Aftermath of Childhood Abuse

With: Scott Nelson, PhD

When: Wednesday, January 7th at 10-Noon

Despite the challenges that intimate relationships present survivors, and the struggles their PARTNERS face in caring for themselves, their survivor mates and their relationship partners and couples have received very minimal consideration in clinical practice and in the extensive research literature on abuse. Through lecture, case descriptions and interaction, this presentation will address:
1) The negative impacts of abuse that most directly affect their intimate relationships,
2) The common set of issues that partners and couples struggle with to maintain their intimate relationships,
3) the neurobiology of trauma,
4) Intervention strategies that might lead couples from surviving to thriving.
