Experiencing and Neutralizing Attachment Issues through Active Somatic Work

Approach-Avoidance issues are one of the most common problems that clients bring to us. "Don't smother me!" "I want you closer to me but not too close." "Why is it when you get close I get nervous and when you go away I get scared?" "Why don't you touch me any more?" This is also the issue behind many Domestic Violence issues as well. Abandonment issues often make partners threaten from fear or push for connection when the other partner finds that threatening.

In this workshop participants will experience the emotions underlying these issues in dyads that help explore the need for support, the fear of being abandoned and the dislike or fear of being emotionally pushed or cornered. Experiencing this you will be able to help clients viscerally understand their attachment patterns and through this understanding naturally resolve relationship issues where these patterns have blocked intimacy. I have found this series of experiences to rapidly resolve relationship impasses very quickly, yielding greater harmony and peace.

Gilbert Shepard LMFT has been licensed since 1976 and learned the exercises presented in this workshop from studying Breema Bodywork shortly after that. Finding them very useful he has taught them at various workshops over the years. He has also studied Somatic Experiencing in several of its variant forms and is certified in Hypnosis, proficient in EMDR and EFT and is certified in the Treatment of Severe PTSD and Dissociation by the International Association for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.

The fee for Wednesday workshops is $5 for members; $10 for non-members. Saturday workshops include a $10 member or $20 non-member fee.

Please RSVP to ceu@eastbaytherapist.org so we know for how many attendees we need to prepare space and nourishment.
