Course Description:
With all the recent changes that have come with healthcare reform, this is a must-attend workshop for insurance veterans and novices alike, even if you don’t accept insurance. What will healthcare reform mean for therapists and our clients? What’s new about the brand new CMS-1500 claim form?
What you don't know can hurt you and your clients; it is important to be informed, so you can best advocate for the treatment your clients need.
From this workshop, you will learn:
· An overview of the Affordable Care Act, and what it will mean for therapists
· How to turn first-time callers into new clients – even if you aren’t on their health plan
· The 12 Crucial Questions to ask when checking coverage to avoid denials
· The most costly mistake therapists make with insurance
· An introduction to the NEW CMS-1500 CLAIM FORM
· (Time permitting): The secret to successful requests for more sessions and telephone treatment reviews
· Note: we will not be discussing the DSM-5 in this workshop
There will also be a brief presentation on Single Payer health insurance by members of Therapists for Single Payer.

Barbara Griswold, MFT, is the author of Navigating the Insurance Maze: The Therapist's Complete Guide to Working with Insurance -- And Whether You Should (www.theinsurancemaze.com). In private practice in San Jose, California, she has been a provider for more than 20 insurance plans for over 20 years.
