This course is designed to help therapists identify their biases and their effects and learn how to address them so they can create more egalitarian and authentic interactions with clients.

Julie A. Garcia, Ph.D.,
Professor, Psychology and Child Development Department      California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo


Dr. Julie Garcia is a social psychologist that has been researching, teaching, and doing service related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for over 20 years. She has published over 20 research articles and book chapters, as well has received prestigious research grant funding to do research on these topics. She has also given over 50 presentations on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics both nationally and internationally.  In 2017, she did a TEDx talk on implicit bias.   

She received her Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan and did a postdoctoral training at Stanford University.  She has been on the faculty at California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo in the Department of Psychology and Child Development for over 13 years and has also served as the university's Interim Associate Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion in the Office of University Diversity and Inclusion.

This course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. Completion of this course earns a discount on liability insurance. 

You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the workshop if you miss no more than 15 minutes of the workshop and complete the evaluation.

The East Bay Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for MFTs, Associates and students, MSWs, LEPs and LPCCs. The Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.           

To ensure you receive credit for the workshop and have a stress-free experience, please:

Sign into the workshop at least 5 minutes before the start time

Be certain your FULL NAME (as you have registered for the event) appears onscreen so that we may properly take attendance,

Miss no more than 15 minutes of the workshop

Leave your camera on throughout the entire workshop (except for break)

Complete an evaluation (which will be emailed to all participants after the workshop) 

Refund Policy for all events: Registrants who do not attend or fail to cancel registration seven days prior to scheduled event will be charged full fee.  The only exception will be for registrants who are unable to attend due to family emergency.  If you need to cancel, please reply to this email within seven days of the upcoming event.
